Storage areas

Each area is one storage method with its own racking, slot size and pick time. Areas sit side by side from left to right in this order and share the front cross aisle. Use the arrows to reorder.

Building

Position runs from 0 at the left end of the building to 100 at the right end. Pickers start and finish every tour at the pack station. With the station at the back, pickers use a main aisle behind the longest area; shorter areas connect to it across open floor.

Golden zones

A golden zone is any block of slots you want fast movers in. Pick an area or leave it on "All areas". Aisle, bay and level numbers are counted within the area. Leave a range blank to mean all. Priority is a head start in feet; where zones overlap, the highest priority wins.

Picking

Seconds per pick line are set on each storage area, since picking from flow rack is faster than from a pallet.

Report and ROI

Used only for the Excel and PDF reports. Annual savings = (pick labor hours saved + replenishment hours saved) per week × wage × weeks. One-time cost = moves × minutes per move × wage. Use the customer's own figures; "loaded" means wage plus benefits and overhead.

Slotting rules

An item can only go to an area whose slot it fits and whose classes include it. Among those, it goes where slot cost plus a cube-fit penalty is lowest. The cube-fit penalty grows as the item would leave more of the slot empty, which keeps small slow movers out of pallet positions. Heavy items go on levels centered 3 ft or lower in areas marked "Heavy low only". The hard-reach penalty applies to slots centered below 2 ft or above 5.5 ft in areas that have it switched on.

Import your locations

CSV with location_id, area, aisle, bay, level and optional position (slot within the bay) and side (L/R). Optional storage_type (carton flow, static shelving, bin shelving, pallet rack, bulk floor). Area codes in the file become the storage areas. Codes you already have keep their settings; new codes take their type from storage_type, or from the code itself (CF, SH, BN, PR, BF), or start as static shelving. Without an area column, everything goes into the first area.

Item master

CSV columns: sku, length, width, height, weight, velocity, group, current_location, plus optional storage_area to lock an item to one area (for example hazmat or high-value cage). Dimensions in inches, velocity in picks per week.

Orders

Import your order history: one row per order line with order_id, sku, and optional qty and date. Lines for SKUs that are not in your item list are skipped. Walk, labor and pickers needed are then based on your real orders.

Add an order by hand

"Set velocity from orders" replaces each SKU's picks per week with its order lines in the file, scaled to a 5-day week. If the file has a date column, the number of days is filled in for you.
